Official Statement from the Uzbekistan Pavilion

The Uzbekistan Pavilion wishes to inform the public of a technical issue that recently arose during the generation and distribution of QR codes intended for pre-registered visitors.

Due to an unexpected and significant surge in pre-registration—exceeding 10,000 entries within a span of less than two hours—some individuals received multiple QR codes within a single email. This anomaly created confusion and presented a potential risk to personal data privacy.

The incident was communicated to the Uzbekistan Pavilion team in Osaka at 10am (JST) and they immediately alerted the IT team back in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (6am local time).

As a precautionary measure, the Uzbekistan Pavilion suspended the online registration system within two hours of detecting the issue. A comprehensive investigation was promptly initiated, resulting in the immediate deactivation of all previously issued QR codes in order to safeguard user data. At present, none of the deactivated codes contain any personal information. The basic info featured in the QR codes (surname, first name, email address of users) were immediately deleted from the system thus no storage of such information was possible by a third party.

The Uzbekistan Pavilion Management extends its sincerest apologies to any individual who may have inadvertently received information pertaining to other registrants. We would like to reassure all concerned parties that the data exposed was minimal in content and limited in scope.

While the investigation remains ongoing, the online registration portal will remain temporarily offline. Our current assessment indicates that fewer than 200 individuals were potentially affected by this technical malfunction. Each of these individuals will be contacted directly by our team.

In parallel, our IT Department is undertaking rigorous enhancements to the registration system to ensure that such an incident does not recur. In the interim, we warmly welcome all visitors to experience the Uzbekistan Pavilion in person, without the need for prior registration.

The Uzbekistan Pavilion deeply regrets any inconvenience caused and offers its most sincere apologies to the organisers of Expo 2025 Osaka, as well as to all individuals impacted by this issue.

In a continued effort to respond swiftly and maintain full transparency, we invite any individual who may have encountered this issue to contact us directly at support@expo2025uzbekistan.uz. We are committed to responding to all inquiries within 24 hours.

With utmost respect and appreciation,

The Uzbekistan Pavilion
